On Saturday, thousands of North Texans will converge on Sundance Square for the 16th annual Susan G. Komen Tarrant County Race for the Cure.
Among the crowd will be Mansfield resident and breast cancer survivor, Jody Short. Short had to be carried across the finish line at last year's Tarrant County Race for the Cure, but this year she plans to finish the race on her own two feet.
“Last year, I was freezing because it was cold and I was bald,” Short said. This year she has most of her hair back and is feeling much better.
Jody was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in August 2007. She was given a pink hat at her first Race for the Cure with the number 1 on the bill. She hopes to replace that 1 Saturday with a 2, marking her second year winning the fight against breast cancer and her second Race for the Cure. “There is such camaraderie, we all just feel good because we are all in the same boat,” Short said.
With her prognosis much better than it was a year ago, Short hopes to inspire other women following in her footsteps. “I am a survivor,” Short said. “I am going to beat this and so many of us can do the exact same thing.”
