Get ready for the pesticide trucks to start rolling in Grand Prairie.
A mosquito sample tested positive for the West Nile virus, so the city's Environmental Services staff will spray the affected area.
City spraying trucks will roll from 11 p.m. on July 16 until 5 a.m. July 17 in an area bound by Josephine Ln./S. Gilbert Rd. on the north, Belt Line Rd. on the east, E. Trinity Blvd. on the south and Gilbert Rd. on the west. Residents in this area are advised to stay indoors, keep pets inside, and cover fish ponds during those times.
Spraying will be rescheduled if wind speeds are above 10 mph or in the event of rain.
North Texans can help prevent West Nile virus by eliminating the areas where mosquitoes breed which includes emptying, removing or covering any receptacle that can hold water. To prevent mosquito bites, residents are advised to use an insect repellent containing at least 30 percent DEET (lower concentration for children) and stay indoors at dawn and dusk.
