New Cancer Treatment Center Coming to North Texas

A new cancer treatment center is being planned for Irving.

The new Texas Oncology Center is expecting to attract patients from all over the world with a $105 million, 50,000 square foot building that should be completed by 2015.

The facility's primary focus will be using "proton therapy" to treat cancer.

"When you use proton beam therapy, the energy that comes into the patient is low and it can be increased at the target," said Scott Cheek, a radiation oncologist.

The center will be the first of its kind in North Texas.
