Kids Zapping Cancer

Video game to help understand cancer

Young patients are being encouraged to pick up a joy-stick to battle cancer at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.

"Remission is a video game actually designed to teach adolescence and young adults about their cancer," said Lisa Bashore of Cook Children's Medical Center.

The game allows children to attack virtual cancer cells, tackle the disease and win.

Doctors at Cook Children's Hospital also use the game to explain treatments like chemotherapy.

"It's proven to be very effective in treating a patients cancer and hopefully improving their chance of survival," Bashore said.
