Judge Considers Planned Parenthood Injunction

Planned Parenthood has asked a state judge to stop Texas from banning its clinics from the Women's Health Program, saying the move violates state law.

The organization wants to extend a temporary order stopping Texas from banning clinics that have ties to groups that provide abortions. Planned Parenthood attorneys said Thursday that Texas law requires agencies to conform with federal law, and that the ban on Planned Parenthood is a violation.

Gov. Rick Perry has said the state will shut down the health care program for poor women if a judge says it must include Planned Parenthood. Perry said that Texans do not want public money going to clinics tied to abortion providers, even if those clinics don't perform the procedure.

A state attorney said Texas is within its rights.
