Dallas County Health and Human Services has confirmed the county’s ninth human case of West Nile virus for 2009.
The patient, who lived in Duncanville and in zip code 75116, was diagnosed with West Nile Neuroinvasive Disease and died this week.
For medical confidentiality and personal privacy reasons, DCHHS does not provide additional identifying information.
"While this death is unfortunate, it should serve as a reminder to our community that the West Nile Virus is being carried by mosquitoes in this area," said Zachary Thompson, DCHHS Director.
"It is important that residents do their part by taking the necessary precautions to avoid exposure to the virus."
The best way to avoid exposure to West Nile Virus is to practice the three Ds: * use insect repellents that contain DEET * Drain any standing water and * Dress in long, loose and light-colored clothing during dawn and dusk hours.
The county's eight case was just revealed on Monday and involves a person who lives in zip code 75228. That person is recovering in a hospital.
