Dallas Police and Fire Roll Up Their Sleeves in Battle of the Badges Blood Drive

Third annual blood drive competition benefits the American Red Cross

Dallas police and fire-rescue personnel will roll up their sleeves this week in a friendly competition for the American Red Cross.

The third annual Battle of the Badges has police and fire fighters competing to see who can save more lives through blood donations.

In 2011, Dallas Police Department claimed victory and the trophy over Dallas Fire-Rescue.

"The police department beat us last year," said Jason Evans the public information officer for Dallas Fire-Rescue. "But this year, we are determined to take the trophy to the fire house,"

The donations aren't limited to fire and police personnel, anyone in the community can donate on behalf of their favorite first responder organization.

"The Battle of the Badges is a fun opportunity to engage and educate community members about blood and how they can help," said Sgt. Warren Mitchell, Dallas Police Department public information officer. "Hopefully, we can top last year's numbers and bring in more blood this year."
