TV Prices May Plunge

42-inch plasmas could sell for $700

Prices for new flat-panel TVs may drop significantly over the next few weeks.  That's according to the market research firm DisplaySearch.

Here are some examples of the prices DisplaySearch expects consumers to see:

A 32-inch LCD as low as $400.

A 42-inch plasma as low as $700.

A 50-inch plasma as low as $1000.

In some cases, the prices are hundreds of dollars lower than the best prices available now.

The reason?  Manufacturers and retailers fear weak holiday sales due to the weak economy.  To keep inventory moving, they will slash prices.
