Linus Wright Named to Teacher Retirement System Board

Wright named presiding officer of Texas board

Gov. Rick Perry has named Linus D. Wright of Dallas presiding officer of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas Board of Trustees for a term to expire at the pleasure of the governor.

He replaces James H. Lee of Houston.

Wright is a retired educational consultant.

He is a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Association of School Business Officials, and Retired Military Officer Association.

He has served on the Texas Business and Education Committee, Dallas Citizens Council Fiscal Affairs Committee, and Dallas Foundation.

He is also a member of the Circle 10 Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Wright served as general superintendent of the Dallas Public Schools for 10 years and superintendent for administration and chief financial officer in the Houston Public Schools for eight years.

He was a Reagan appointee to the U.S. Department of Education's Fund for the Improvement and Reform of Schools and Teaching and served as Under Secretary of Education for two years in the Reagan administration.

Wright served in the U.S. Army and received bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from Austin College.
