Improved Wireless Service Coming to Texas

AT&T planning major 3G expansion

AT&T plans to add more than 130 new cell sites throughout Texas before the end of  2009. Some of these new cell sites will be located across larger metro areas, including Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, El Paso, San Antonio and Sherman-Denison. The majority of the new cell sites, however, will be located in rural areas across the state.

"A top priority in 2009 is to continue to enhance the wireless and wired networks so our customers have a top notch experience every time they make a call, check an e-mail, surf the Internet or watch TV," said Adam Vital, AT&T vice president and general manager, North Texas.

AT&T will also launch its third-generation (3G) wireless broadband network in 11 new Texas markets including Abilene, Amarillo, Beeville, Eagle Pass, Fredericksburg, Garner State Park, Giddings, Huntsville, Kerrville, Lufkin/Nacogdoches, and San Angelo. AT&T will also continue to expand 3G markets that have already launched, including Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Midland-Odessa, Temple-Killeen and Tyler.

"We continue to make significant investments to deliver dependable high speed wireless access in more places across Texas for consumers and business customers who need to stay connected to work, family and friends," said Don Cain, president, AT&T Texas.
