Texas Unemployment Rate 7.1 Percent in August

Midland has the lowest jobless rate in the state

The Texas Workforce Commission says statewide unemployment held steady in August at 7.1 percent.

Commission officials in Austin on Friday said the July jobless rate was revised down from 7.2 to 7.1 percent. The August 2011 unemployment rate in Texas was 8.1 percent.

The Midland area had the lowest jobless rate in Texas last month at 3.8 percent.

Chairman Andres Alcantar says Texas has had consistent job growth across a number of industries. The annual growth rate for Texas has been positive for 28 consecutive months.

Commission figures show the Texas economy added 38,000 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs in August for a total of 259,500 nonfarm jobs added since 2011.

Texas trade, transportation and utilities added 13,100 jobs last month, while construction jobs grew by 13,600.
