Spirit Adding Service from DFW to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway

New service begins March 22, 2012

Florida-based Spirit Airlines has announced it will become the second carrier to provide service from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, joining Allegiant Air.

The low-cost airline will start two daily non-stop flights to Las Vegas on Feb. 9 and daily non-stop service to Dallas-Fort Worth with continuing service to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on March 22.

Spirit already serves the San Francisco area, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas and Dallas.

The carrier has about 45 destinations, concentrated in the eastern half of the country, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant became Gateway's sole carrier in 2008 after Vision Airlines stopped its service to Las Vegas.

Gateway is a former Air Force base in southeast Mesa that closed in 1993. It took almost 13 years to land its first civilian carrier.
