Some Atlanta Leaders Question Project Management Contract With Arlington Company

A city council member and a county commissioner are questioning the contract for Con-Real of Arlington

Some leaders are questioning a contract for a Texas firm to manage construction projects at Zoo Atlanta and the Atlanta Hawks' arena.

News outlets report the government agency that owns the zoo and basketball arena hired the highest bidder to oversee construction.

A city council member and a county commissioner are questioning the contract for Con-Real of Arlington, Texas, to oversee a $50 million zoo expansion and a $192 million renovation of State Farm Arena.

Con-Real is getting $1.4 million to oversee the zoo expansion and $2.4 million to manage the arena renovations.

The Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority said the contracts with Con-Real will save taxpayers millions of dollars.

City Councilman Andre Dickens and Fulton County Commissioner Bob Ellis have questioned how Con-Real was chosen, given the costs.
