Hunt: Convention Hotel Shouldn't Be on Stimulus List

Councilwoman says Obama's stimulus plan is for roads, schools

A city councilwoman blasted the mayor of Dallas for submitting the proposed convention center hotel as a possible project for President-elect Barack Obama's economic stimulus plan.

Councilwoman Angela Hunt found the hotel on the list of public works projects the Mayor Tom Leppert submitted for the job-creating plan.

Hunt, a critic of the $350 million hotel, said the stimulus plan is supposed to build roads and schools not a "fancy hotel in downtown Dallas."

"I am shocked by this Mr. Mayor," she said.

Leppert said the hotel could be ready to start quickly and could create jobs. He said the list he submitted is only preliminary.
