Hiring for the Holidays

Retailers are starting to ramp up recruiting efforts for holiday jobs.

There may be more holiday job opportunities this year because of the improved retail outlook.

"There definitely is a hiring season for the seasonal jobs, and that actually begins right now -- towards the middle to end of October,” said Buffy Wehner of Jobing.com, an employment website focused on local recruiting. “So if you are in the position to look for a seasonal job, you'll definitely want to get out there and start looking right now. "

But job seekers should search other industries, too, Wehner said. The service industry may be hiring, with hotels, private clubs and other venues hiring for company parties and travelers.

S.A.F.E. management, the Super Bowl's primary security contractor, is currently hiring 700 people to work in guest services and as security guards.

The company holds interviews sessions at its Arlington office on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and they've been busy.

"We're excited about providing an opportunity for people that need work or for people that have a part-time job or a full-time job and just want to be part of the experience and help us out on weekends,” said the company’s Kari Parkinson.
