Government: 2Q Airfares Hit Record High in US

Average U.S. airfares are the highest in the 13 years that the government has been tracking them.

The Transportation Department said Wednesday that domestic fares jumped 8.1 percent in the second quarter compared with a year ago.

The government says the average domestic itinerary fare in the second quarter jumped to $352, breaking the record set in the first quarter of 2001.

The highest fares were in Cincinnati, and the lowest were at Dallas Love Field.
