Madden Video Game Will Live On

There's no word yet as to whether Madden will continue to lend his voice

Legendary broadcaster John Madden announced his retirement on Thursday, but the his legacy will carry on in the virtual world. EA confirmed to The Business Insider that the company has a "long-term contract" with Madden to continue the Madden NFL video game franchise:

"We've been working with John for a very long time, and he'll continue to lend not only his name but his creative input into the game," EA tells us.

Madden NFL 10 comes out in stores on August 10, but as always, the biggest news will be when the game's cover star is announced. Slowly, EA Sports has been releasing the names of nine possible cover athletes -- Ed Reed, Adrian Peterson, Brandon Jacobs, Ben Roethlisberger, DeMarcus Ware and Matt Cassel are the current candidates. The final decision will be revealed on April 24 at the draft.

There's no word yet as to whether Madden will continue to lend his voice to future versions of the game, or simply his name. Someone call Frank Caliendo.
