Consumer Reports: Most and Least Loved Cars

Before you buy a new car, you want to make sure you’ll be happy.

A good way to tell is to hear from owners and ask whether they’d buy their car again. That’s what Consumer Reports does for you, surveying 350,000 car owners.

Here are the most- and the least-loved cars out of almost 300 covered in the survey.

The Corvette Stingray is the best-loved sports car, with 95 percent of owners saying they’d by the car again.

Mazda also has a loyal following. 81 percent of Mazda6 owners said they’d definitely buy it again, and Mazda3 owners are also enthusiastic.

Consumer Reports’ Director of Auto Testing, Jake Fisher, says, “Mazda is really on the rise in terms of owner satisfaction because of great fuel economy and sporty driving experience.”

The Subaru Forester is the best-loved small SUV, and for midsized SUVs, the Toyota Highlander V6. And the best-loved car of all is the Tesla Model S; 98 percent of owners said they’d definitely buy it again.

Hybrid owners are especially happy with their cars, according to the Consumer Reports’ survey.

The Honda Accord Hybrid is the best-loved midsized; the Chevrolet Volt, the best-loved compact; and the Toyota Prius C is the best-loved subcompact.

Then there are the least-loved cars.

The Nissan Versa is down at the bottom. Only 42 percent of owners said they’d re-up. It doesn’t do well in Consumer Reports’ ratings, either. The ride is jumpy, it’s noisy and the interior feels cheap.

Others at the bottom of Consumer Reports’ owner-satisfaction list—the Jeep Compass at 43 percent and the Kia Rio at 46 percent. And not much better, the Nissan Pathfinder. Only 52 percent of current owners said they’d definitely buy the Pathfinder again.

NBC 5 reached out to the automakers for a repsonse to Consumer Reports' findings.

Jeep Compass is the most capable compact SUV in the marketplace and has double-digit sales gains since 2011. Customers love the 4x4 all-weather capability, 30 mpg fuel economy and Jeep heritage in an affordable SUV.

Nissan respects third party reviews and, more importantly, our customers' feedback. We constantly strive to refine and improve all of our products in order to continue exceeding customer expectations. We will study today's findings to assess further product improvement opportunities.
