Baylor to Pay $907K in Health Claims Settlement

Baylor University Medical Center, Baylor Health Care System and HealthTexas Provider Network will pay $907,000 to settle allegations of submitting false claims to the government.

The agreement was announced Tuesday by the Department of Justice. Investigators say the health care claims involve various radiation oncology services by the Dallas-based Baylor organizations.

The claims were submitted to Medicare, the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services and the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program. The time frame was 2006 through May 2010.

Authorities alleged double billing for various treatments, lack of documentation and improper billing for some higher-cost services.

The Justice Department says there has been no determination of liability as part of the Baylor settlement.

A spokeswoman for the Baylor entities did not immediately comment Tuesday.
