The Fort Worth Police Department says a woman who pointed a gun a police following a chase has been critically injured in a shooting involving a police officer.
According to police, officers gave chase after a driver refused to stop for officers along the North Freeway/Interstate 35W Tuesday morning.
The female driver of the vehicle was then involved in a crash with another car near NE 28th Street and Deen Road, west of I-35W, police said. The occupants of that vehicle were not injured, police said.
Following the crash, the driver continued down 28th Street and into the parking lot of a Carnival Food Store at the intersection of 28th and Main streets where the woman in her 40s and a man in his late 20s exited the vehicle.
The woman, according to police, was armed with a gun as she ran from the vehicle. Police said the woman turned and pointed the gun at the officer, who then shot the woman. She was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where she is listed in critical condition.
The man ran a short distance on foot before being taken into custody by police. He is expected to face a variety of felony charges, including evading arrest/detention.
The identities of the man and woman have not yet been revealed.

"Any time we have a critical police incident like this, and there's a gun involved, it's a very serious situation. Our officers are trained, we know that this is a highly populated area," said Cpl. Tracey Knight. "We're a professional police department, and this is all part of the investigation. It's a critical police incident that will be investigated by our major case detectives."
One officer has been placed on routine administrative leave during the investigation into the shooting.
