Two people died in a crash along Interstate 635 between Webb Chapel Road and Marsh Lane on Tuesday morning.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office said Tarleton Mullikin, 83, and Benna Mullikin, 82, were killed in the crash.
The wreck was first reported shortly before 10:10 a.m. on a stretch of LBJ Freeway that is under heavy construction for the LBJ Express project.
From Chopper 5, a dump truck could be seen straddling the concrete retaining wall that separates the east and westbound lanes of traffic. Two cars, one on each side of the freeway, were crushed beneath both the front and back of the dump truck.
Firefighters were seen using the "jaws of life" to free at least one person trapped in the wreckage. Soon after, they covered the car with a tarp, indicating that someone had died and that authorities were awaiting the county coroner.
The dump truck was later confirmed to have been driven by a person sub-contracted to work on the LBJ Express project. The driver, who was on the job at the time of the crash, had just dropped a load, so his truck bed was empty.
The son of the owner of the trucking company said his father was visiting the driver at the hospital, who is OK. The owner wants to convey his condolences to the families of the victims, the son said.

Andy Rittler, LBJ Express project spokewoman, released the following statement:
"On behalf of the thousands of workers involved with the LBJ Express project, we wish to express our sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of those lost and hurt in today's accident. Though the investigation is ongoing, we can confirm that the trucking company involved is known to have been a subcontractor on the LBJ Express project. As our company and subcontractors assist the Dallas Police Department with its investigation of this accident, we are committed to keeping drivers prepared and safe as they move through the construction zone."
While the crash was cleared, the westbound lanes of LBJ were closed while one lane was allowed to pass on the eastbound side. Wreckers arrived on the scene to begin removing the damaged vehicles around 11:40 a.m. NBC 5 crews at the scene reported that the roadway was open at 2:12 p.m.
