Dallas Police Take Custody of Serial Rape Suspect Van Dixson

The man suspected of committing at least four rapes in Dallas was returned to North Texas Thursday.

Van Dixson was arrested in Baton Rouge, La., Sept. 10 by the U.S. Marshals Service's Middle Louisiana Task Force following an investigation into a string of rapes in South Dallas since June.

Police said nine rapes are connected and four of those cases have been linked to Dixson through DNA evidence, police said.

Dallas police interviewed Dixson, a local crime-watch volunteer, in connection with the assaults but ultimately let him go because they said they didn't have anything to hold him on.

When police officially named him a suspect on Sept. 7, he was no longer in North Texas.  He was arrested a few days later in Louisiana and held at the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail until his extradition.

Dixson arrived at the Dallas Police Department early Thursday afternoon.

Officials have not said when he will face trial.
