Clinton Compares Climate Change, Weight Loss

Clinton compares battle with climate change to battle of the bulge

For Hillary Clinton, saving the ozone layer is just as hard as getting on that treadmill.

The Secretary of State compared the battle against climate change to her own battle with the bulge in an Earth Day speech she gave about global warming.

"Oftentimes, when you face such an overwhelming challenge as global climate change, it can be somewhat daunting -- it's kind of like trying to lose weight, which I know something about," she said in the speech given to her State Department staff.

"You think, oh I only have to lose X numbers of pounds but it seems like such a far away goal," she said.

Clinton also compared fixing the climate change problem to an attempt to create "world peace" -- a potentially unattainable goal but that Americans should still try to achieve.

"It's kind of like world peace, and so therefore why even try? Well, because we are called to try," Clinton said. "That's who we are as human beings and that's especially how we think of ourselves as Americans."

Clinton hasn't faced a public up-and-down weight loss battle and hadn't specifically spoken about any challenges with weight at all until the Wednesday speech.
