Cool Capt. Sulley to Deliver Speech at Alma Mater

Hero pilot will be keynote speaker at Texas highschool he graduated from

DENISON, Texas — The US Airways pilot who safely landed his plane in New York's Hudson River will speak at his Texas alma mater's graduation ceremony.

Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger is expected to deliver the commencement address at Denison High School on June 6.

Sullenberger had only two minutes to land the plane in the Hudson after it was struck by geese and lost power after taking off from LaGuardia Airport on Jan. 15. All 155 people aboard survived.

Denison schools spokeswoman Sherry Christie says educators and officials are excited about what Sullenberger can tell students about that day.

Sullenberger lives in the San Francisco Bay area community of Danville, but he grew up in Denison, which is 75 miles north of Dallas.
