UNT President Resigns

Dr. Gretchen Bataille served as university's first female president

University of North Texas president Dr. Gretchen Bataille announced she will step down effective February 28.

Bataille was named UNT president on August 14, 2006, and was inaugurated as UNT’s first female president on April 13, 2007.

"As a university community, we have made significant progress in many areas, including academics, arts, research, athletics and image and reputation. A better infrastructure is in place to achieve our strategic goals and to embrace new opportunities. Pride in our university is at an all-time high, and we have achieved unprecedented levels of state and national recognition. I am proud of these accomplishments," said Bataille.

“Members of the UNT System Board of Regents and I thank President Bataille for her leadership and service to the university,” said Board Chairman C. Dan Smith. “We respect the strong sense of purpose that she brought to her presidency and her work to build an even better university."

The UNT System Board of Regents is expected to accept Bataille’s resignation at its regular quarterly board meeting February 11-12, 2010. At that meeting, board members also are expected to consider processes for the appointment of an interim president and the search for a new university president.
