NBA Investigates Incident at the AAC

Women allowed to return to their seats after incident

The National Basketball Association is investigating an incident during last Saturday's Mavericks-Trail Blazers basketball game.

The Oregonian newspaper reports two women walked onto the court during a timeout and one of the women hugged Portland player Rudy Fernandez.

The incident happened less than two weeks before All-Star weekend activities, so of which will take place in the arena. Security is expected to be tight for those events.

"We're looking into exactly what happened," Tim Frank, the NBA's vice-president, basketball communications, said in an e-mail to the Oregonian on Wednesday. The women were reportedly allowed to return to their seats and were not kicked out of the arena.

The incident took place with 41 seconds left in the game.

Reporter Geoffrey C. Arnold emailed Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and asked if Cuban felt comfortable with security at the AAC. His one-word response: "Very."
