School Bus with Swimmers Plunges into Pond

Bus driver loses control, no one injured.

A school bus loaded with swimmers from a high school swim team went off the road and plunged into a small pond Monday morning.

18 members of the Rockwall-Heath High School team were returning from an aquatics center when it went into the pond.

The students and their coach were able to walk off the bus through the emergency door in the back. Five students were taken to area hospitals as a precaution. The bus driver had to be rushed to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

Investigators hope to question the bus driver about what went wrong on Farm-to-Market Road 549 in Rockwall county, about 20 miles northeast of Dallas.

Many parents who heard about the accident rushed to the crash scene to check on their children. Most of the students who were on the bus made it to campus a short time later.
