North Texas boxer Luis Yanez has announced his first professional fight.
The bout will take place Feb. 20 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. His opponent is yet to be announced.
"I've been waiting for this moment since I was 14," Yanez said. "It's a dream come true, fighting in my hometown."
The 20-year-old grew up in Duncanville.
Yanez made headlines prior to the Beijing Olympics after he was kicked off the U.S. squad for missing practice. He was then reinstated after a legal battle.
He did not win a medal.
"I just tried to stay positive, think positive and just forget about all the negative stuff and just keep moving forward," Yanez said of the controversy.
Yanez said he now hopes to live up to his billing as "The Latin Legend." He said he hopes to bring a world title home to North Texas.
With his trademark showmanship, Yanez broke into rhyme: "Consider this a warning. I'm letting y'all know. You're about to witness one helluva show."
