Worth The Drive: Join This Wine Club

The intense Texas heat bearing down on the ground at the Texas Hills Vineyard coupled with cooler hill country nights makes for sublime grapes. Quality grapes beget flavorful wine, all worth a drive.

Texas Hills Vineyard is located in the hills of the Pedernales River Valley in the Texas Hill Country near Johnson City.

It’s the state’s first producer of Pinot Grigio, according to the vineyard’s website.

Founded in 1996, one of the vineyard’s missions is to support agro-tourism in the state with its wine sales. The winery also boasts a mobile bottling unit called “Lucy.”

It uses the least amount of chemicals as the Texas Hill Country will allow. Turkey compost is used to fertilize and remove weeds with a mechanical device called a "French hoe."

Kick Butt Cab, Orange Moscato (sweet!) and Toro de Tejas are a few signature wines offered at the eco-friendly winery.

Texas Hills Vineyard is open to the public.
