Worship Good Gumbo?

Then go; go on a pilgrimage to Boyd

There’s a buzz about the City of Boyd, Texas and it isn’t because Bo, First Dog to President Barack Obama was bred there.

Hungry North Texans are making the drive to Wise County every week to eat at GoGo Gumbo, where a simple setting and delicious dinner awaits.

"It’s not what you’d expect in Boyd but that’s why people make the trip out here for us," chef/owner Kraig Thomey told us.

The fifty-seat restaurant has about 1500 fans on facebook, a number that Thomey admitted is stunning to him.

He cooks (if Thomey isn’t there, the restaurant is closed) for up to a thousand people a week.

"That many people is about all we can handle," said Thomey, who has twenty-five years of fine dining experience under his belt.

His refined culinary expertise and passion for cooking comes through in his food.

Portions of tasty shrimp n’ crab gumbo, the gogo! salad (organic baby mixed greens, baby spinach, spiced pecans, feta cheese, dried cranberries in balsamic dressing), tempura green beans (see more here) and 2DIE4 dessert (a pastry shell layered with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cream cheese, mousse, ladyfingers topped with an almond cookie) are massive.

Prices however are not.

Therein lies the beauty of this, dare we say it -- seafood shack. Yeah right, if your shack served fresh, gourmet fare worthy of a seaside view of Saint Tropez.

OK, perhaps we’ve gone a bit too far. As far as the City of Boyd, that is!

Insider Info:

GoGo Gumbo is first come, first serve and BYOB. If patience isn't one of your virtues, we recommend skipping a Friday or Saturday night visit.
