What You're Doing Tonight: May 8

JALAPENO ON A STICK: Oh Jeff Dunham, why do you have to be in town when we're not? You're not only the funniest ventriloquist ever, you're also from around here! We'll miss Achmed the dead terrorist, Peanut, and cranky old Walter, but the Townies shouldn't. Head to the AAC for the 8 p.m. show, and bring a change of pants -- you're going to pee yourself laughing.

FUNKY FATTY IN COOL VENUE: Grapevine's historic Palace Theatre is a cool venue right on Main Street that hearkens back to the days before multiplexes or even Starplexes. We also like Grapevine's own Fatty Lumpkin who'll play the Palace at 7:30 p.m., so it's like a two-fer of unique and cool mixed with a side of jam band flair.

NOT AS SQUEAKY AS SEEN ON TV: Look, lots of stand-ups have joined the ranks of sitcom dads, but few have come out of it with the same heat they went in with -- George Lopez is one of the fortunate few to get out of the TV-clean comedy level and get back to his roots -- the dirty, cursing, high-octane anger roots. Do not bring the kids to this one. Lopez' show starts at 8 p.m. at NOKIA Theatre.

THE HEAT IS ON: Psychobilly is a weird term. It's rockability melded with psychotic almost-metal rock that sounds like a speeding freight train from Hell. One of psychobilly's best is DFW staple Reverend Horton Heat. If you already know the band, you'll be headed to the Aardvark in Fort Worth starting at 9 p.m. If you don't already know them, here's the time to find out what you're missing.

BEST BAND NAME OF THE WEEK: We love to make up silly band names (stuff like The Epic Win or Zac Crain's Uvula) but our first prize band name winner for this week has to be Top Secret Robot Alliance. It's one of those names that perfectly captures the dance-rock this duo is pumping out for folks at The Prophet Bar at 8 p.m.
