Volunteers Needed For Special Olympics

Largest state games start May 26-29

Volunteers are needed this week when more than 3,000 Special Olympics Texas athletes from across the state take over Arlington for the 2011 Summer Games.

Held at the University of Texas at Arlington and at surrounding community venues, officers from across the state participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run will start the games officially Friday.

Special Olympics Texas athletes will compete in athletics (track and field), basketball, cycling, gymnastics, soccer and tennis.

In addition to the athletes, thousands of volunteers will assist with the competitions as family members watch.

All events are free and open to the public.

Volunteer opportunities, a description of the roles and online volunteer registration are available by clicking here.

Or just show up and go to the Volunteer Tent at Maverick Stadium for a volunteer assignment.
