Fast-casual Concept a Success in Dallas

Housed in a building that was once a Just Brakes, Rusty Taco opened seven weeks ago. And business is already booming for the fast-casual taqueria, which offers handmade street-style tacos for $2.

โ€œOur goal is to serve a lot of people as fast as possible and as cheaply as possible," owner Rusty Fenton, said.

His approach is working. When we went to check it out, there was a steady steam of hungry customers for hours. People came, ate and then often hung out for a bit.

The outdoor communal tables encourage getting to know other diners and the $5 margaritas help loosen any trepidation guests may have in doing so.

Fenton definitely knows what heโ€™s doing. He co-founded Uncle Julioโ€™s and has enjoyed success as a restaurateur for many years.

He has employed servers who are veterans of the business as well, and even has the former Trader Vics chef -- Cary Boudreau -- in the Rusty Taco kitchen.

The food is fairly priced and unpretentious -- just how we like it. The $5 margaritas (snag the recipe here)  are made with fresh lime juice, making them neither too sweet or syrupy.

Fenton plans to expand on his success by opening other Rusty Tacos through out the city. He wouldn't tell us where exactly, but rest assured, we will let you know as soon as he tells us.
