Renowned Texas artist and University of North Texas teacher Vernon Fisher will show his new works in an exhibit titled "Dead Reckoning" at Dallas Contemporary.
Fisher’s narrative paintings use both image and text on layered background of various mediums. Images and stories express everything from familiar cartoons to war-torn blasts, and ‘50s family settings to moon landings. From a severe overblown comma to an innocent Nancy cartoon, Fisher enhances the viewer’s perceptions and plays with emotion and imagination.
The Fort Worth-native’s career includes solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and Dallas Museum of Art. Important group exhibitions include Art Institute of Chicago, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Bronx Museum, and Miami Art Museum. Internationally he has shown in Paris, London, Dusseldorf, Seoul, Rotterdam and Mexico City.
And now the accomplished artist takes on Dallas Contemporary, a gallery that has featured the work of local and national contemporary artists for more than three decades. Tucked away off the outskirts of downtown Dallas, the museum is always free to the public.
