Sfuzzi Las Colinas to Open in October

The chatter that has engulfed Irving's upscale Las Colinas community is the impending arrival of Sfuzzi, the casual Italian restaurant/lounge that is the hottest spot in Uptown. Sfuzzi is set to open in October at 525 Meadow Creek Drive, an address that has been met with failure upon failure.

From the opening of Tenaya in 1999 to the short-lived bar known as The Belvedere before the disastrous run of Republic that was transformed into Las Colinas Prime, this location has has seemingly been "cursed." The people behind Sfuzzi are accustomed to this type of challenge as the Uptown location at 2533 McKinney Avenue had seen places such as Urban Paninoteca and Split Peas open and close. Sfuzzi itself is a success story as it relaunched in 2010 after being the glitzy place to be seen in Dallas in the late 80s and early 90s. At its peak, there were 21 Sfuzzi locations over eight states.

Sfuzzi will go a long way in filling the huge void in the Las Colinas nightlife scene that features very few options outside of the massive Cool River Cafe. The cool atmosphere will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood for residents of gated communities such as Cottonwood Valley to high-toned condos such as the Grand Treviso and nearby Four Seasons Resort and Club and Omni Mandalay Hotel. It will also be a nice option for people attending the sparkling new Irving Convention Center located directly across state Highway 114.

While the Uptown location thrives with its popular patio and the fact that so many people live within steps of its entry, the Las Colinas locale looks to build on the lunch and happy hour crowds from the nearby Fortune 500 companies such as ExxonMobil, Kimberly-Clark, Commercial Metals and Flour Corp. Executive Chef Tommy Simpson comes to Sfuzzi in Las Colinas following stops as Executive Chef at Dallas' N9NE Steakhouse and Executive Sous Chef at Nobu Dallas and Hotel ZaZa's Dragonfly restaurant. Chef Simpson's kitchen will offer cuisine similar to the Uptown location ranging from pizza and pasta to steaks and burgers.

Expect the new Sfuzzi to "reverse the curse" that has saddled this locale. And look for the patio to be the place to see and be seen in Las Colinas.
