Teen ‘Playing' With Gun Shot 16-Year-Old Girl at Point-Blank Range in Dallas: Police

William Hester told police the gun discharged while he was holding it

An 19-year-old is accused of fatally shooting a 16-year-old in the head at point-blank range after "playing" with a gun at a party, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Witnesses told police that several individuals had been playing with a handgun when the suspect pointed the gun at the victim and fired a shot.

William Hester, 19, of Mesquite was arrested and faces a manslaughter charge.

Jakiyah Wrightsil was found on the living room floor of an apartment early Sunday morning at the Veridian Place Apartments located in the 4800 block of Haverwood Lane, police said. Wrightsil was shot in the head, police said.

A witness told police that Hester was playing with the gun, putting it to several people's heads and pointing it at them, the affidavit said. The witness said people were taking the magazine in and out of the gun and the witness thought it was a BB gun, the affidavit said.

The witness said Wrightsil was sitting on the counter charging her phone and the witness told Hester to stop playing with the gun, the affidavit said.

Wrightsil told Hester to jokingly shoot her in the leg when the suspect put the gun to her head and pulled the trigger, the affidavit said.

The witness heard the gunshot and saw Wrightsil fall to the floor, the affidavit said. The witness told police that all the people at the party ran, including Hester with the gun still in his hand, the affidavit said.

The witness called 911 and a neighbor came to help render aid.

Wrightsil was pronounced dead at the scene from the gunshot wound to her head.

Wrightsil's stepfather said she was a junior in high school. The family has not finalized funeral plans.

It's not immediately clear if Hester has an attorney.
