Plano's Legacy Books to Close

Independent book store -- and haven for big-name book signings -- Legacy Books in Plano's Shops at Legacy North, will close its doors on August 14.

The book seller opened in 2008 and quickly became a destination for authors on book tours. Some of the famous signings included chef Paula Deen and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

In an article in the Dallas Morning News, store managers said the book store's investors are pulling the plug as business slows for the store. Some analysts think the location of the store was one of the big issues -- others (like us) think online booksellers, big chains like Barnes and Noble, and the rise of e-books all cut too far into indie stores' profits.

In any case, the Shops will have one less tenant on August 14 -- but don't expect the space to stay empty for long; lease owners are already talking to "multiple prospects" to take over.
