Republican presidential candidate John McCain came up short nationally on Election Day, but he's a winner in Texas.
The Arizona senator won the votes of Texas' 34 presidential electors Monday because the majority of voters in the solidly Republican state supported McCain in November over Democratic President-elect Barack Obama.
Formal meetings of electors were held across the country Monday as the electoral college officially voted on the nation's next president.
Texas' meeting took place in the state's House of Representatives chamber, with plenty of Texas song and fanfare.
The Texas vote kept alive a three-decade GOP streak in the state. A Democratic presidential candidate has not prevailed in the Lone Star State since Jimmy Carter won in 1976.
