Man Dreams of Becoming “American Ninja Warrior”

Oklahoma man finishes obstacle course in 1:46

"Ninja warrior" wannabes flocked to Fair Park for the chance to be on "American Ninja Warrior," a new television show based on the popular Japanese version.

Contenders tested their strength and willpower as they maneuvered through a tricky obstacle course filled with ropes, water and a giant wall.

Todd Stair, 23, traveled from Norman, Okla., in hopes of making the final cut. A fan of the Japanese version, he's been watching the show since his freshman year in high school.

The 23-year-old first started submitting tapes for the show two years ago. Last year, he was granted a tryout in Venice Beach, a move he said helped him prepare for this year's tryout.

"Experience matters, and also being able to adapt is a big key factor in how well you perform in this," Stair said.

The fastest 30 competitors advanced to the next round, which is scheduled for Friday night.

From there, the crew will move on to Miami to continue the regional competitions before heading to Las Vegas for the finals.

"American Ninja Warrior" will premiere this summer on NBC and cable network G4.
