7/29: Julie & Julia, Flying Dogs, and Free Tacos

JULES OF THE KITCHEN: Julie Powell, the dame who took on 524 of Julia Child's recipes in a cramped New York City apartment during the course of one year and chronicled the madness in a blog that became a book, will appear unscathed at the Dallas Museum of Art for a signing. She's gotten much in return for deboning the haunches of all sorts of animals and enduring accidental pyrotechnics: her second book is ready for release, and she's gearing up for the premiere of a movie starring Meryl Streep that's based on her first one. The DMA event is sold out, but you can still get a ticket to a simulcast presentation at a discount. 7PM.

CIRQUE DU DRAMA: Tightrope walkers and clowns just don't cut it anymore at the Barnum & Bailey circus, folks. Dogs apparently fly now. The show, entitled Over The Top if you needed any more evidence of its grandeur, opens in Dallas tonight and runs until August 9. American Airlines Center, 7PM.

SPONTANEOUS B.S.: For participating artists, it's a mind-to-mind contact sport. For bar-goers and art patrons, it's a wonderfully weird slinging of paint, chalk, etc. set to music. For fans of free tacos and brownies, tonight's installment of the BS Art Fusion Show is a must-go. With Peligro, The Bleach Boys, and others.  Rubber Gloves, 9PM,
