Jim Harbaugh: “Great Respect for Tony Romo”

Romo bested the 49ers head coach in his second ever game in the NFL

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh says the Dallas Cowboys’ comeback victory over his team in Week 2 of the 2011 season--led by Tony Romo, who was playing through a cracked rib and a punctured lung--haunted him for a good long while.

A deep bruise--that took a while for that to go away,” Harbaugh said this week. “But I have great respect for Tony Romo, what he’s accomplished and the body of his work for his career. What he did on that day, seeing him leave the game and come back and engineering a fourth-quarter comeback. It was most impressive.”

According to Romo’s best friend Jason Witten, that 27-24 overtime win took the two-time Pro Bowler’s reputation for toughness to the next level among his teammates.

“That was really the first sign for all of us how tough he really was,” Witten said. “We thought he might be out for the game, maybe a few games. But he comes back in there. It was surreal. It was like he was coming out of the bullpen. It was an unbelievable performance by Tony.”
