Many fans and analysts seemed to enter this offseason with the belief that Felix Jones had played his last game for the Dallas Cowboys, but owner and general manager Jerry Jones doesn’t want to jump to any conclusions just yet. He said this week at the NFL’s Owners Meetings in Phoenix that the team will reevaluate their running game behind starter DeMarco Murray, but that it doesn’t preclude Jones from the mix.
"We've got to look at the backup backfield," Jones said, per ESPN Dallas. "You can't dismiss Felix. I don't want to dismiss him from our thinking."
Felix Jones has shown flashes of brilliance, but as Jerry readily admits, he’s struggled with injuries throughout his still-young career. With Murray out for six games last season, Jones helped the Cowboys to their lowest rushing total in the history of the franchise since the league went to 16-game regular seasons.
"I didn't expect Felix to have some of the physical limitations that he's had," Jones said. "I know how hard of a worker that he is, and I know what his motor was when he came out of Arkansas. The facts are he did some good things for us last year. I would have hoped with those two No. 1 picks, Felix could have been the one. But of course, Murray had something to say about that. But the big thing with Felix has been his health. That's been the most disappointing thing."
