There's a new line of premium denim out there that promises to fit women who are usually hard-to-fit.
"Our motto is that it's a versatile fit for women with real bodies," said Cookie Johnson, the name behind CJ for Cookie Johnson jeans.
By "real bodies," she means women with curves.
Johnson, the wife of NBA legend Magic Johnson, said the idea came from her personal experience: She could never find jeans that her body type.
"I could not find a jean out there to fit me," she said. "I've tried 100 pairs of jeans. Could buy whatever I want, but nothing fit me."
Johnson said her jeans are for women who want the designer look, but who don't fit into the standard slim cut of premium jeans.
"The industry only made a denim line that fit one body," Johnson said. "There's so many other bodies out there, and there's so many other real bodies out there, so I decided to design jeans that would fit a woman with a real body."
CJ jeans cover what they're supposed to -- without looking frumpy, she said.
"So we raised the rise just a little bit, but not so much that you feel you're wearing your mother's jeans. And in the back, it comes up a little bit higher," Johnson said. "So it covers everything that needs to be covered, and it has a little more room in the thighs."
In sizes 4 to 18, Johnson promises her jeans will flatter women young and old.
"All our fabrics have a stretch to them, so they're very comfortable, and they move with the body," she said.
CJ by Cookie Johnson jeans are available at Nordstrom stores and soon at Neiman Marcus.
