Holidays in the ‘Hood: Uptown Dallas

A festive Girls' Day Out of boutiques, antiques and a laid-back ladies' lunch

Plan your festive Girls' Day Out in Uptown filled with boutiques, antiques and a leisurely ladies' lunch.

SIP SOME SPICE:
Start your Uptown Girls’ Day Out with a relaxing sip at Crooked Tree Coffeehouse (2414 Routh St.).  Plan your shopping strategy over a Pumpkin Pie Chai or a Cinnamon Mocha, both featuring the flavors of the season.  You might also check out super-cute Crooked Tree tees while you’re at it, in short sleeve ($20) and long sleeve ($25) styles.

IF THE SHOE FITS:
Now that you’re fully caffeinated, head up Routh to Kacky & Carl (2722 Routh St.).  The epitome of boutique shopping, this gem features a chic selection of clothing, jewelry and gifts.  Once you’ve filled your first reusable shopping tote, wander to the yellow house next door for a Cinderella moment.  Whether you’re expecting a certain question this Christmas or not, Lulu’s Bridal Boutique (2728 Routh St.) is a great place to dream a little dream.  Featuring wedding gowns by Pronovias, among other marvelous makers, the second floor of this charming cottage is devoted to bridesmaid’s frocks in every style and color imaginable.  Store manager Robin Jackson also encourages gals to bring a bottle of bubbly for sipping while they shop!

TREASURE HUNT:
Next stop Fairmount for an antique adventure at Uncommon Market (2701 Fairmount St.).  The multi-building shop’s “Junk and Disorderly” sale is going on now through the end of the year, and you won’t want to miss a nook or cranny in either of these Victorian homes or the 15,000 square foot warehouse out back.  Treat yourself to a leisurely stroll through room after room filled with furniture, statuary and curiosities, but remember – all Junk and Disorderly sales are final.

A LOVELY LUNCH:
When it’s time to take a load off your Louis Vuittons, may we suggest Truluck’s (2401 McKinney Ave.) for lunch?  A classic choice for fresh seafood and steak, Truluck’s lunch menu features a sumptuous selection of salads, soups, sandwiches and entrées.  Maybe tuck into a Sautéed Superlump Crabcake, then a Tenderloin Salad scattered with crumbled blue cheese.  Go ahead and linger over dessert; that’s what holiday afternoons are for!

HEAD-TURNER:
After lunch, prepare to fall in love with Flirt Boutique’s (2633 McKinney Ave., suite 150) feminine selection of dresses, jeans, tops and footwear.  Trendy and affordable, you’ll find brands like Mek Denim, Karlie Clothes, LTB Jeans and Seychelles shoes at Flirt.  Maybe pick up a red lace drawstring top by Hot & Delicious ($52) for a romantic New Year’s Eve at home, or go all-out with a python-print mini-dress by Karlie ($107) if you’re ringing in 2010 on the town.

OLD SCHOOL:
Last but never least, wrap up your delicious day in high vintage style at Ahab Bowen (2614 Boll St.).  Just follow the feather boas across the way from Flirt to one of Uptown’s premier spots for vintage clothing, jewelry and more.  Maybe you’ll find a sparkly antique brooch (we hear they’re back in, you know) or something special for a friend.  Truth is, you never know what you’ll discover at Ahab Bowen, and that’s just the way we like it.  Happy Hunting!
