Historical Alamo Documents Up For Auction

Documents written by William Travis at the Alamo are up for sale

Documents written by William Travis at the Alamo just days before the famous 1836 battle are up for grabs at auction -- but not for less than $25,000 each.

Online bidding starts Thursday. Auctioneers RR Auction says the two promissory notes signed by Travis reveal what Texas soldiers had on hand at the Alamo before the siege by Santa Anna.

One receipt, dated Feb. 20, promised $450 for 640 pounds of coffee and 370 pounds of tobacco. Another receipt, dated Feb. 21, is for wood to be used as cannon platforms.

The Battle of the Alamo began two days later.

The auction closes Nov. 17. The Travis documents formerly belonged to a private collector in Waco who died in 2003.
