Glass Cactus Named a Top Nightclub by Billboard

Billboard Magazine says Glass Cactus is one of The 25 Hottest Clubs in North America for 2012.

“We are extremely proud to receive this exciting recognition from Billboard Magazine,” said John Imaizumi, senior vice president and general manager, regional hotel operations at Gaylord Texan in a press release. “Along with the live music performances and spectacular lake views that make our venue so unique, we strive to provide exceptional service and entertaining experiences for our guests that truly set us apart.”

That's all well and good, but how did Billboard come up with the list?

The list, published on their official website, starts with this:

These are the top-ranked clubs in North America based on box-office data reported to Billboard Boxscore by concert promoters or venue representatives for events that occurred this year from Jan. 1 through June 1.

AEG Live, Live Nation and independent promoters report their data to Billboard, but we have to wonder how many other of other local hot concert spots do -- like Billy Bob's, maybe? -- that would keep them off the list.

Then again, maybe it's a weird definition of nightclub. Is House of Blues Dallas a nightclub? (Because House of Blues Atlantic City is on the list...) Verizon Theater? (Because Club NOKIA in L.A. is on the list...) What about WinStar's stage? (Because at least eight of the places on the list are connected to a casino...)

Not to take anything away from Glass Cactus -- the club says they make $16 million every year, after all -- but the whole thing feels off to us...maybe because a club in Boise, Idaho, is No. 9 on the list.
