Thousands of animals in shelters across North Texas will get a better chance at getting a new home Saturday.
Saturday is Change a Pet's Life day at animal shelters across the Metroplex, including the SPCA in Dallas on Industrial Boulevard. Animal shelters across the Metroplex.
Starting at noon, the first 10 adoptions are free. New pet owners will also get a little extra help in welcoming their new pet to their home as well.
"They will get a coupon to get a few months' supply of food, which is going to be wonderful and that will help people out, too," said Maura Davies, of SPCA Texas.
The event is sponsored by Hill's Pet Nutrition.
With a sluggish economy, adopting pets isn't always a top priority, but Saturday's event may help.
"There may be a lot of people out there that really -- especially right now with the economy -- that can't afford an animal but would really like to have one," new pet owner Iris McKairin said.
