In honor of Texas Recycles Day, many cities around the state are holding events to raise awareness and help you get rid of some that trash.
In the city of Fort Worth, organizers are holding their 5th annual shred day where unwanted documents can be shredded and recycled.
"We understand there are concerns about identity theft and protection of personal material, but working with Greenstar we are able to dispose of that material," said Brian Boerner, director of environmental management for the city of Fort Worth.
"Everything is completely shredded and goes into a bale system -- we ship it to one of our partner mills, hydro-pumped and recycled into new recycled paper," said Steve Simmons with Greenstar.
If you are a Fort Worth resident you can bring up to 10 boxes to be shredded for free, but there is a weight limit.
"We ask that you have the materials in an organized manner, we don't want to come into your trunk and pull out loose papers, put it in a paper box and that would be appreciated," says Boerner.
Greenstar said the the process is secure because, "We have a fully enclosed shred room that is monitored by cameras 24/7, all of our employees in this red room all have background checks," according to Simmons.
Organizers just ask you get in line on time and be patient.
The Fort Worth shred day is set for Nov. 15, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Greenstar which is located at 1100 North East 23rd street.
Remember this is at the Fort Worth location of Greenstar and is for Fort Worth residents only.
