Flooding Causes $225,000 in Damage to Plano City Property

Torrential rainfall this past weekend caused more than $225,000 in damage to Plano city property, the city says.

Athough no homes in Plano were affected, the flooding forced the cancellation of the Plano Balloon Festival Friday evening, Sept.21.

The City's Risk-Management division visually inspected the site from the ground and air to determine damage to city property as well as any damage downstream.

City equipment that was either destroyed or nearly destroyed included an E-Z-Go Utility/Turn Vehicle ($8,406), a Mobile Animal Shelter ($169,225) and Onsite Surveillance Cameras ($49,683); the estimated loss city damage totals $227,314.

As of 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, damages to be remedied at Plano park sites Stoney Hollow Park and Bob Woodruff North included debris removal from playground equipment and mulch and tree replacements.

Oak Point will need extensive turf repair as a well as inspection of its electrical and water lines in the coming days.

Pecan Hollow Golf is still looking over the course, but damage control consists mostly of debris removal and sand trap repairs.

The Environmental Health Department's Storm Water Division also inspected the site for potential pollution from hazardous waste, determining that contaminants were too diluted to be considered dangerous.
