Fat Tuesday Feasts

Get the good times rollin' with great Cajun food and drinks

From po’ boys to crawfish to swamp-tastic drinks, read on for where to get your eat and drink on during Mardi Gras.

Alligator Café

4416 Live Oak St., Dallas

Almost everyone we’ve met who’s visited this East Dallas hole-in-the-wall has instantly become addicted to its Cajun cuisine.  Crawfish Enchiladas, Fried ‘Gator Tail and Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce all sound like they’d hit the spot come Fat Tuesday.  The Café is also hosting a Crawfish Boil with live music, beads and a clown for the kiddies starting at 6 p.m. in honor of the occasion.

Boudreaux’s Cajun Kitchen

720 E. Campbell Rd., Richardson

4000 Bagpiper Way, Arlington

Drink and appetizer specials are on tap at the Richardson location of this Houston import on Tuesday, and at Boudreaux’s in Arlington, kids eat free that day with the purchase of an adult entrée.  We’re leaning toward the Salmon Mardi Gras ourselves, served with Crawfish and Pico de Gallo in a Dijon Cream Sauce.  Yum!

Dodie’s Cajun Diner
Multiple Metroplex Locations

Since 1989, Dodie’s has been treating Lower Greenville to a taste of the Big Easy with dishes like New Orleans-style BBQ Shrimp, Blackened Catfish and Jambalaya.  Come Tuesday, the original Dallas location will have a live band to celebrate the holiday, and Dodie’s in Frisco is also planning an “all day party”.  Contact the location nearest you for more information.

Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen
Multiple Metroplex Locations

The Swamp Thing’s the thing at Pappadeaux’s for Fat Tuesday, on special for $8.95 in a commemorative “keepsake” glass.  That’s a combo of Raspberry and Melon Liqueurs and Hurricane and Margarita mixes, in case you were wondering.  Limit one per guest…but from the looks of it, one should do it.

Ralph & Kacoo’s
401 Central Expressway South, Allen

This gem specializes in an extensive menu of seafood specialties, but it also boasts the best Red Beans and Rice this side of our Mama’s Crock Pot.  Enjoy yours along with live music and all-day happy hour specials in the bar on Tuesday.

Razzoo’s Cajun Café

Multiple Metroplex Locations

It should come as no surprise that this Cajun chain is planning quite a ring-ding for Mardi Gras.  All locations will be offering specials on Crawfish, Oysters and Beer, as well as $3 Frozen Hurricanes.

Last but not least, be sure to check out these “Cajun dictionaries” from Pappadeaux’s and Boudreaux’s before you head out for Mardi Gras.  New Orleans has a language all its own!
